Event Two: Deception (Part 2)

-----------------------------------------------

J.M. limped his way back to Room 311, and saw the other attendees calmly eating their snacks. Cory asked about what happened, and the red beanie wiped his sweat and explained his fight with the zombie cosplayers. When he mentioned the absence of Esco, Cory nodded it off and offered the attendee two spam musubis.

"I was fighting Bruce Lee!" exclaimed J.M., reluctantly taking the snacks. He also found Kim smiling wickedly over her hot dog. "I bet Esco ran off bleeding somewhere, and -- wait a minute. He said he wanted to fight me, but I saw Bruce Lee instead-- and fought him. Am I going crazy?"

"Hey, don't worry about it. Esco will return," assured Cory, chewing on his hot dog.

"Hopefully," said Shane, quietly sipping his hot coffee.

The red beanie nodded, believing his friends. The question would remain in J.M.'s head: where did Bruce Lee come from? Unless Esco quickly shapeshifted behind my back...no. Actually, I'll believe Esco went elsewhere. For some reason, J.M. directed his focus towards Kim, who gazed at him with her curious eyes. In fact, the short-haired attendee kept her eyes at him since the beginning. What's her problem exactly? Did she ever try to hook up with anyone? She should hook up with Shane. The short-haired girl bit her lip in arousal, making J.M. turn away to continue eating his spam musubis. After a painful fight against literally colorless cosplayers, this was more than he could ask for; a pleasant mouth-watering taste of processed meat with rice wrapped in seaweed.

An hour later, the red beanie excused himself to use the restroom. As he washed his face, he reflected on the past events that led him to where he is now. First, he was waiting for a bus ride home until he was knocked out after saying a weird name. Then, he was sent to the convention center to meet a group of strangers who seem to know each other well. Especially Cory; he seems to be the leading man of the group, though he didn't care about the safety of the other attendees. I should be careful...

"How ya doing, J.M.?" echoed Cory's voice.

"Never better," replied the red beanie. He watched the middle-aged man walk toward a stall. "Hey, how do you know Esco would return?"

"I believe in him. All of them," Cory said. "We all agreed to look after each other since it's just us five."

J.M. nodded. Using some wet paper towels to clean his shoes, the attendee thought about the unexpected arrival of Bruce Lee again. Maybe he's one of the attendees? No, that's not right. It could be that Esco was knocked out and was taken somewhere. With that thought, he would assume the other guys would be aware of the possibility of themselves getting snatched. "What would happen if I left you guys? I mean, I have a feeling Esco was taken--"

"I dunno about that," Cory called over a flushing toilet.

J.M. looked over his shoulder, but could only see Cory still settling in the stalls. Shrugging, the hooded attendee resumed cleaning his shoes. "Why? Did you even know Bruce Lee was gonna show up to replace Esco? If so, then this convention is kinda whack."

"I'll tell you this much, kid," said Cory, slowly walking towards the kneeling J.M. while dragging some heavy object. "Looks can be deceiving."

"What are you talking--?" J.M. paused in mid-question, staring at a completely different person. A blond man in a white suit with a red tie and a blue shirt, grinning mischievously.

"Man or woman, anybody can be a bad person. Just looking at you, you could use a special lesson, courtesy of Mr. Onizuka."

Acting fast, J.M. dodged the man's sledgehammer, avoiding the crumbling debris of the sink counter. The red beanie ran out of the restroom to return to Room 311-- until he was greeted by an iteration of Kamen Rider Faiz. "What the f--"

"Not all dreams can survive," uttered the masked man. Strangely enough, the voice sounded familiar to the red beanie's ears. "Unless you set your will to make them real."

"Shane..." J.M. said in disbelief. Quickly, he dashed in time from Onizuka's weapon of choice. As he ran for his life, he had a feeling there was a secret agenda plotted against him. He decided Esco wasn't kidnapped; he was a temporary decoy for Bruce Lee. Likewise for Cory; his real identity was that of Onizuka while Shane was Faiz. He turned around to glare at the kamen rider who flicked his wrist, then ran toward him, leading to a flying kick to the head. Unfortunately, Faiz rolled over beforehand. J.M. grinned as he charged at the blond teacher. Ignoring his hammer, the hooded attendee aimed for his opponent's legs. At the same time, J.M. kept his eyes on the masked man as he threw wild punches. After a quick rub in the chest, J.M. moved around to strike Onizuka in the abdomen. When Faiz went to help the blond man, the red beanie rushed over to take an elevator ride to the first floor.

"I see how it is," said J.M. between breaths. "Not everything is what it seems. Anything can be an obstacle to me, even people. I will overcome them."

Once he reached the first floor, there was no such luck for an escape. Faiz activated his Faiz Edge and ran to slash J.M. The hooded attendee raced for the doors until he was spotted by the grinning Onizuka. The fictional avatars fought their target, and the frantic attendee did his best to beat his opponents. Faiz was the only opponent who desired to eliminate J.M., while Onizuka became exhausted. In perfect timing, J.M. defeated the masked rider using a powerful kick and punch combo. Running away to the escalators, the attendee seemed to drop his beanie near Onizuka, who laid unconscious. He returned to pick it up-- only to get caught in the private area. Despite his effort, J.M. was defeated by Onizuka. Faiz appeared seconds later to intimidate the groaning attendee with his Faiz Edge.

...

"Are you okay, darling?"
